Literally almost one of the very last Saab 9-3 Aero Turbo’s, built in 2002. A Saab with the still typical recognizable “combi-coupe” shape or as Saab later called it, the hockey stick shape. Especially visible in the side view.
Originally, this Saab started its life in Sweden as a corporate company car, then cherished for years but in the end found its way to the Netherlands.
Here in the Netherlands it received the necessary extra attention. All specific weak body spots have been restored to new condition. The bottom, inside wheel arches, front and rear bumper, side skirts and door strips have been given a new coat of paint. The cavities are protected against corrosion by “Mike Sanders” grease.
The towbar, the lower grille in the front bumper and the brake anchor plates are powder coated black.
The engine is equipped with Mod6 and the sump has been disassembled and cleaned. In addition, the DI cassette, fuel pump and starter motor have been renewed. A larger intercooler has also been installed and the engine software has been optimized by Dion HPT.
Furthermore, the Saab is equipped with a new stainless steel exhaust from front to rear with a 3”downpipe from the turbo.
New brake discs and pads have been mounted on all 4 wheels and the brake callipers have been overhauled. New front struts and Bilstein B6 shock absorbers all around have been mounted.
The car is fitted with Michelin Cross Climate tires with sufficient profile.
The Saab is now fresh and sleek.
In terms of appearance, the Aero is almost similar to a Viggen. The bumpers and side skirts are the same, only the Aero has a different tailgate spoiler, the suspension is less low and it has Aero specific 3-spoke 17 inch wheels.
Open the door using the typical oval door handles, with door plastic handle shells. (protects against the scratches). Adjust the leather-covered seat electrically and save your favourite position. (three memory positions) The seats have a special shape only fitted to the Aero and Viggen models. The Aero has ‘Turbo’ embossed in the upper part of the backrest in the front and rear seats and the Viggen a logo In addition, specific leather colours have been used for the Aero.
A pleasant Swedish option is the seat heating and the 220v connection in the lower grille of the front bumper to preheat the engine. There is also a power socket at the passenger’s footwell. An electric heater can be connected here. Both the cable and the heater are present. The ‘bornfromjets’ origin can still be seen on the dashboard. It has a shape that is inspired by the cockpit of an airplane. Another characteristic Saab thingy is the “night panel” function. When activated, only a part of the speedometer remains visible. Even the shape and operation of the air vents is still very Saab. They can be aimed at all angles for the correct air flow. Cruise control, radio steering wheel control, TCS are other options. The feature of every Saab Turbo is of course; the Boost gauge!
The Saab starts with a direct hit and a nice heavy exhaust note. This is really a wolf in sheep’s clothing. You could say it drives better than a Viggen due to its 2.0 liter engine which results in less torque steer. A car with two characters, from quietly cruising and smooth to lightning fast and with a wonderful sporty Saab sound.
An extensive photo report of all activities and a valuation report is available.
The Saab has been stored exclusively in our garage.
In short, a unique opportunity to own an increasingly rare Saab 9-3 Aero Turbo in this exceptional condition.
